What is a Domain Name?

A domain name is much like your own or your business street address. The internet uses domain names as it's map instead of street addresses. So, in place of say; 123 My Street, City, State, Zip ... it's http://www.mywebsitename.com on the internet whereby the "mywebsite" in the example above is replaced with the domain name you have selected to call your web site. There are variations to using http://www.mywebsite.com such as:
